Psalm 38
Sin is serious & affects our moods and behaviour and long term prospects. David discovers this, but also (eventually) God's goodness & grace.
Psalm 39
The Psalmist was silent at first because he thought this would keep him from sin - but he realised this just made him feel worse. So, he spoke to God.
David learned that words are just one way we sin.
He learned the brevity of life.
He realised the vanity of wealth.
Psalm 40:1-10
v1-3 5 things David says God did for him
Turned to him
Heard his cry
Lifted him out of the slimy pit
Set his feet on a rock
Put a new song in his mouth - a hymn
v4-10 David's response was:
To recognise God's blessing
To praise God
To offer himself
Proclaiming righteousness
Speaking faithfulness and salvation
Reveal God's love and truth
