1 Cor 3-7 Undivided devotion to the Lord

The place & task of Christian workers (3:1-4:2)

They should be considered 'nothing' v5 - simply servants of God.
They have different roles - some planting, some watering, but ultimately, only God makes things grow v7
They should be careful how they build v10
They cannot lay any foundation other than the one already laid - Jesus v11
Whatever they do will be revealed with fire - fire will test the quality of our work v13
Don't consider yourselves wise by the standards of this world, rather go by God's standards v18-19
Don't boast about yourselves - regard yourselves as servants of Christ, entrusted with the secret things of God 4v1

4v1-21  Lessons from the earthly 'lot' of the apostles

It is God who judges us, not others - therefore don't judge others before God's time
Don't go beyond what is written
We have become a spectacle to the rest of the world - they view us as the scum of the earth, the refuse
We imitate Paul, as he lives his life in Christ Jesus
God's Kingdom isn't a matter of talk, but of power

Remember, ultimately, it is only God's final judgment that counts - our work will be judged by Him, but won't affect our final salvation - it may affect the reward we receive though.

Ch 5

There are to be different attitudes towards those sinning within the church & those outside the church.  We are to remember those outside the church will be judged by God.

6:1-11  If we 'wash our dirty linen in public', the world will see and wonder at our disunity.  Remember, we were wicked people, but we have been washed, sanctified and justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.

6:12-20  The permanent significance of the Christian's body

Everything is allowed, not everything is beneficial.
Everything is allowed, but I will not allow anything to have control over me.
The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for God.
Our bodies will be raised.
Our bodies are members of Christ Himself.
We should unite ourselves with God and be one with Him in spirit, rather than prostituting ourselves with anyone else.
We must flee sexual immorality.

Our body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in us and who we received from God.
We are not our own, we were bought with a price & should honour God with our body.

7:7-8  Paul remained single because that was his gift from God.  It allowed him to keep concerned about the Lord's affairs, not on the affairs of this world.

7:17-24

Retain the place in life that the Lord assigned to you & which God has called you to v17
Remain in the situation you were in when God called you v20
Remain in the situation God called you to v24

Be the person that God has called you to be - stay involved with those God has brought into your life.

Married life 7v2-5, 10-16

Should be encouraged because of immorality
Should involve marital duty to each other - your bodies belong to each other
Is at risk of Satan's temptation
Involves commitment to each other
This is true, even if your spouse is an unbeliever
Involves living at peace with each other
